WHERE IT ALL STARTED

HELLO CALGARY

2021 SEASON UPDATE

A NOTE FROM YOUR LOCAL GOLF & TACOS COMMITTEE

MAY 4, 2021:

We are aware of the new Alberta restrictions coming into effect on May 5 and will be in touch with our community with an update very soon. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Big love,

GOLF & TACOS

___

Golf & Tacos is back and ready for a massive season in Calgary. Whether you’re a returning alumni, or here for the first time, we’re thrilled you’re considering picking up a club (or taco) with us.

We’ll be running five ‘seasons’ of programs so you can choose your own golf adventure: Group Lessons, League Nights, MILD League (Par 3), and other meet-ups and events where possible. Registration for each seasons will open in phases to ensure we can adapt to any changes in provincial guidelines over the coming months: Spring (May), Early Summer (June), Mid-Summer (July), Late Summer (August), Fall (September).

New for 2021 we welcome Valley Ridge Golf Course to our host family, in addition to our OG locations: Golfuture YYC, Inglewood G & CC, and Canyon Meadows G & CC. Be sure to confirm which location you’ve selected when checking out, as certain programs (I.e. League Nights) may alternate venues each week to keep things spicy!

COVID-19 | We continue to monitor the coronavirus pandemic and are working closely with our partner golf courses and teaching professionals to ensure the safety of participants, staff, and volunteers. We ask for your patience and understanding should Golf & Tacos programs and events require further adaptations over the season to ensure compliance, but most importantly, safety for all.

If you haven’t already, explore the site to learn about what Golf & Tacos is all about, make sure you’re familiar with our values and golden rule, check out the format and contents of our programs and events, and figure out what your spicy level is. Please check out the FAQ page for some answers to common questions and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, contact us using the email below.

Alright 2021–let’s do this!

MEET YOUR

COACHES

Todd

Golfuture YYC

Todd Halpen has a degree in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Victoria and has dedicated over 27 years to the game of golf; as a student, a professional player, entrepreneur, and now a teacher. With an extensive competitive, instructional, and business background, Todd has made a name for himself in the golf industry.

What sets Todd apart from other golf instructors is his extensive playing experience and competing in events all over the world; namely the PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour, and international amateur events. He continues to train every day for competitive golf events and competes across Alberta and Canada every year.

Currently, Todd is the Director of Instruction at GOLFUTUREYYC in Calgary, serves on the PGA of Alberta Board of Directors, and was named a Top 3 ‘Teacher of the Year’ Finalist by the PGA of Canada in 2020.

In the rare moments when Todd isn’t helping others fall in love with the game, you can find him chasing powder in the backcountry of the Canadian Rockies.

Jamie

Golfuture YYC

Bio coming soon.

JOEL

Inglewood G & CC

A professional for over a quarter of his life, he believes in the strong connection between body, equipment, and swing. He believes working from the ground up and connecting the swing to the body as well as course management is key to his students enjoying the game as much as he does. Joel looks forward to building relationships within the G&T community.

GRAEME

Inglewood G & CC

Graeme started playing golf at 15 years old. As our junior coordinator he is great with juniors and beginner golfers. He thinks having fun needs to be the priority for everything we do, including and especially learning to golf.

Bryce

Valley Ridge GC

Bryce is a born and raised Calgarian, who took up the game at the young age of five. His passion for golf led him to pursue careers at various golf clubs growing up, and after completing a brief stint playing hockey he came back to Calgary and obtained a position at The Winston Golf Club. Bryce’s passion for the business side of golf led him to completing a Bachelor of Business Degree at SAIT, where he now helps coach their golf team alongside fellow Professional Stephen Yanitski. This is Bryce’s second year at Valley Ridge GC, and he is extremely excited to meet our new members this season!

JANELLE WONG

EVENTS

Janelle had her first golf lessons when she was in elementary school and is now coming back to the sport as a G&T aluma with an eagerness to be out in the sun during Calgary’s tee-riffic summers. She works in commercial real estate brokerage and enjoys the mental game of golf. She is also passionate about anything in the fitness world and will likely invite you to one of her VersaClimber classes she teaches. You’ll find her positive and relaxed attitude welcoming, just the same as with the G&T instructors and greater community!

CHARLA O'NEILL

GOLF OPERATIONS

Charla has played sports her whole life, but it wasn’t until she quit her elementary teacher job in Vancouver and moved to Calgary 8 years ago that she picked up golf. After getting a job in the Oil and Gas industry, she was gifted a set of garage sale clubs (you can’t be in sales and not golf!) and has never looked back! She loves golf for the networking, the time spent outside with friends and clients, the challenge golf offers, and never missing a hot dog on the turn!

MELISSA KRAUSS

VOLUNTEERS

Melissa started golfing 10 years ago when her and her husband were given golf lessons as a wedding gift.  Casually playing with friends, she quickly fell in love with the beauty and social nature of the sport. Only recently has Melissa really committed to improving her fundamentals, and Golf & Tacos was the perfect outlet!

As a Business Development manager for a Calgary based Architecture firm, she enjoys the game for networkIng with industry peers and will rarely miss the opportunity to sign up for a work tournament (and try for the ladies longest drive title).

She loves a golf course with a view and splits her time playing in the Okanagan valley and Calgary surrounding areas. Canmore’s Silvertip and Vernon’s Predator Ridge top her list of favourite vistas!
