MIKE

McCleery GC

Meet Mike Vanderwolf, Class A PGA of Canada Member, Director of Instruction at the McCleery Golf Academy.

Mike started at Golf in 1977. Joined the PGA of Canada in 1990 and was awarded the prestigious Tex Noble Award in 1995 (Education). In 2000 one year after creating the McCleery Golf Academy, he was awarded the honor of PGA of BC Teacher of the Year. In 2017 he was again nominated for the award.

In 2003 Mike began a long tenure as Facilitator of National Education Programs for the PGA of Canada and also achieved Master Evaluator status within the National Coaching Certification Program framework.

Though he has helped many top golfers reach great heights as competitive golfers over the years most of his work has been done with new  and intermediate golfers helping recreational golfers learn to play and love the game of golf.

A lifelong student of the game and human nature, constantly learning. Finding fresh approaches to share with eager students has been a passion of Mikes for the duration of his career. Being there for young golfers (of any age) when they start and having watched them grow over the years into confident and competent players has been a source of great satisfaction.

I look forward to the opportunity to assist you with development of your skills and enjoyment of golf.

Thursdays at the Dominion Hotel in Victoria were $1 Taco night, of course that was a while back, those were tacos!

DAN

McCleery GC

Dan has been teaching golf for over 20 years in Whistler, Switzerland and Vancouver to all levels of golfers. He is a PGA of Canada Class “A” member and trained in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) as a Coach of New Competitors. Utilizing cutting edge technology in each lesson, which includes Foresight GC quad launch monitor, Boditrak foot pressure mapping/ground forces and HackMotion wrist sensors, he is able to use his experience to set up a customized roadmap for each student.

SANDRA

McCleery GC

Meet Sandra Comadina, Class A PGA of Canada Member, Teaching Professional at McCleery Golf Academy.  Sandra is also TPI Level 1 certified and has completed PING Fitting Foundations.

Sandra had a relatively late start into golf, she was 18.  She was an athlete in school, competing at the Provincial level in Curling, Volleyball and Basketball.  She thought golf was something she might start when she was older, but she tried it with friends and it took almost 2 summers for her to say she actually liked golf.  It was a struggle in the beginning, but she kept at it, got better and having the competitive spirit, started entering local tournaments.  She was hooked. She joined the Canadian PGA in 1994 while living and working in Whistler.  Wanting to work in golf and compete more she moved to Vancouver and McCleery and in 1997 began competing on the Futures Tour and the Canadian Women’s Tour.  She won a B.C. PGA Women’s Provincial Championship and also a Canadian National Club Pro Championship.  She spent a number of winters during that time in Arizona, she training at a large golf school company in Scottsdale and also caddying on the LPGA tour for Canadian Nancy Harvey.  This was an amazing opportunity.  Watching players prepare for their rounds, and observing their game from inside the ropes was such a great experience, very different than being the player.  She loves every aspect of golf, teaching, playing and caddying although she doesn’t like the carrying the bag part of caddying, so that part of her career was short lived.  She always returned back to Vancouver in the spring refreshed, recharged and ready to teach her clients, and play some golf.

Sandra loves to compete but she equally loves helping women with their golf game.  Whether they are brand new, or have been playing for many years.  There is always something to learn and if she can give that player a little boost to the next level that is what makes her work so satisfying.

JESS

VANCOUVER LEAD

Born and raised in Calgary AB, Jess moved to Vancouver in Spring 2020 to join the financial reporting team at lululemon. She grew up playing a bit of golf here and there with family, but fell off as other activities – basketball, volleyball, horseback riding – consumed most of her time.

After completing her CPA in 2016, she jumped back into the game as way to network as a young professional and as a way to get outdoors.

Jess is super excited to join the Golf & Tacos  community to encourage other women to  grow and develop their game in a supportive, fun, empowering environment.

HALEY

GOLF OPERATIONS

Haley was born and raised in Kelowna by two avid golfers who put her in her first junior-junior clinic at the age of 4. She fell in love with the game as a teenager and competed in the Okanagan, throughout the lower mainland, and across the country as a junior before moving to Vancouver to go to UBC on a golf scholarship.

Today she works as a marketing and communications consultant in Vancouver and is a member at Point Grey Golf Club. She still competes at the amateur level and spends most of her time away from the golf course trying to get more girlfriends into the game.

KYLA

EVENTS + SOCIAL

Kyla found golf at 25 years old, and was hooked immediately. She spent her entire first year solely using a 7 iron practicing at the University Golf Club, and felt embarrassed at the driving range struggling to get balls airborne.

Recognizing golf to be an intimidating sport to get into (and it is tough to find other women that are keen and around the same level),  she is excited to be part of the Golf & Tacos community. She hopes to help bridge the gap for beginners and make the golf course a more welcoming place.

By day, Kyla is an accountant working in the healthcare industry and teaches at The University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business. She is also a yoga instructor and has her Yoga for Golfers teaching certification.

When it comes to eats, Kyla opts for a classic margarita and a battered fish taco.
