AND THE GREATER VANCOUVER AREA

HEY THERE VANCOUVER

2021 SEASON UPDATE

A NOTE FROM YOUR LOCAL GOLF & TACOS COMMITTEE

Golf & Tacos touches down on the west coast for an inaugural season in Vancouver and the Greater Vancouver Area. We’ll be starting small and growing where our community wants to see us grow! Whether you’ve golfed for years or picking up a club for the first time, we’re thrilled you’re considering picking up a club (or a taco) with us.

We’ll be running five ‘seasons’ of programs so you can choose your own golf adventure: Group Lessons, League Nights, MILD League (Par 3), and other meet-ups and events where possible.

New for 2021 we start by welcoming EagleQuest Coquitlam, McCleery Golf Course, and University Golf Club to our host family. Be sure to confirm where the Wrap Night location is for the final night of Group Lessons  before checking out, as certain Group Lessons may have an alternate venue for the wrap night (night #5).

REGISTRATION | Each season will open in phases to ensure we can adapt to any changes in provincial guidelines over the coming months and ensure safety remains our top priority. The following are anticipated registration open datesSpring & Early Summer (opens April 20 at 10am PST),  Mid-Summer (June 1) & Late Summer, and Fall (open dates TBC).

COVID-19 | We continue to monitor the coronavirus pandemic and are working closely with our partner golf courses and teaching professionals to ensure safety of participants, staff, and volunteers remains our first priority. We ask for your patience and understanding should Golf & Tacos programs and events require further adaptations over the season to ensure compliance with health guidelines, but most importantly, safety for all.

If you haven’t already, explore the site to learn about what Golf & Tacos is all about, make sure you’re familiar with our values and golden rule, check out the format and contents of our programs and events, and figure out what your spicy level is. Kyle

EagleQuest Coquitlam

Kyle McMurphy is a CPGA Golf Professional who was born in Kelowna B.C. who fell in love with golf as an accomplished junior golfer.  He tied the course record at his home club shooting a 66 at the age of 17 and qualified for the Canadian Juniors at the age of 18. Kyle turned professional in 2015 and competes in many local professional tournaments, with a professional win to his name after shooting a 69 at Royalwood Golf Club in a G&G Tour event (formerly known as the Srixon Tour) in 2017.

Kyle’s favourite golf course in his hometown is Kelowna Golf and Country Club, and calls Capilano Golf and Country Club his top pick in Vancouver. His go-to spot for tacos is Lucky Taco in Kitsilano where he’s known to chow down on the baja pescado when visiting!

JESS

VANCOUVER LEAD

Born and raised in Calgary AB, Jess moved to Vancouver in Spring 2020 to join the financial reporting team at lululemon. She grew up playing a bit of golf here and there with family, but fell off as other activities – basketball, volleyball, horseback riding – consumed most of her time.

After completing her CPA in 2016, she jumped back into the game as way to network as a young professional and as a way to get outdoors.

Jess is super excited to join the Golf & Tacos  community to encourage other women to  grow and develop their game in a supportive, fun, empowering environment.

HALEY

GOLF OPERATIONS

Haley was born and raised in Kelowna by two avid golfers who put her in her first junior-junior clinic at the age of 4. She fell in love with the game as a teenager and competed in the Okanagan, throughout the lower mainland, and across the country as a junior before moving to Vancouver to go to UBC on a golf scholarship.

Today she works as a marketing and communications consultant in Vancouver and is a member at Point Grey Golf Club. She still competes at the amateur level and spends most of her time away from the golf course trying to get more girlfriends into the game.

KYLA

EVENTS + SOCIAL

Kyla found golf at 25 years old, and was hooked immediately. She spent her entire first year solely using a 7 iron practicing at the University Golf Club, and felt embarrassed at the driving range struggling to get balls airborne.

Recognizing golf to be an intimidating sport to get into (and it is tough to find other women that are keen and around the same level),  she is excited to be part of the Golf & Tacos community. She hopes to help bridge the gap for beginners and make the golf course a more welcoming place.

By day, Kyla is an accountant working in the healthcare industry and teaches at The University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business. She is also a yoga instructor and has her Yoga for Golfers teaching certification.

When it comes to eats, Kyla opts for a classic margarita and a battered fish taco.
